PSHE
At South Camberley Primary and Nursery School, we believe that education is about much more than academics; it is about the holistic development of every single child. Our PSHE curriculum is at the very heart of our "one school family" ethos. Across our three campuses—France Hill Drive, James Road, and Frimley Road—we are dedicated to creating a safe and nurturing environment where every child feels a deep sense of belonging and is empowered to thrive.
As proud members of the Engage Enrich Excel Academies (EEEA) Trust, we are committed to delivering an exceptional standard of pastoral and personal education that champions pupil well-being and builds secure foundations for life.
Our Curriculum Intent: What We Aim to Achieve
Our ambition is to equip our children with the knowledge, skills, and emotional literacy they need to navigate the modern world safely and confidently. We have designed an ambitious and coherently sequenced curriculum that builds progressively from our Nursery and Infant sites right through to Year 6 at our Junior campus.
Through our PSHE programme, we aim to:
- Build Character and Resilience: We foster character building, teaching children how to manage their emotions, develop healthy relationships, and face challenges with confidence.
- Champion Emotional Literacy: We give children the vocabulary and understanding to articulate their feelings, ask for help when they need it, and show empathy towards others.
- Establish Positive Routines: By explicitly teaching the importance of healthy habits, respect, and readiness to learn, we support positive behaviour and high attendance, ensuring children are primed for success.
- Promote Highly Inclusive Practice: We celebrate diversity and ensure our curriculum reflects the rich cultural capital of our wider community, helping every child to feel valued and understood.

Our Implementation: How We Teach PSHE
Because we operate as one cohesive school across three sites, our children benefit from a truly seamless transition as they grow. The collaborative staff expertise shared between our Infant and Junior teams ensures there are no gaps in your child's personal development journey.
- Evidence-Informed and Adaptive Teaching: Our teachers use the latest evidence-informed methods to bring PSHE to life. We champion adaptive teaching, which simply means our educators thoughtfully adjust their lessons to ensure every individual child, regardless of their starting point, is supported to achieve their full potential and engage meaningfully with the topics.
- A Cohesive Curriculum Journey: Topics are carefully mapped out. For example, the foundational concepts of sharing and identifying feelings introduced in the Early Years are revisited and expanded upon through carefully planned retrieval practice as children move into Key Stage 1 and 2, eventually exploring peer pressure, online safety, and physical health.
- Relationships and Health Education (RHE): In line with statutory guidelines, we deliver age-appropriate Relationships and Health Education. This is taught sensitively, working in partnership with parents, to ensure children understand how to keep themselves physically and mentally healthy, and how to maintain positive, respectful friendships.

Our Impact: The Difference We Make
The true impact of our PSHE curriculum is seen in the daily life of South Camberley Primary and Nursery School. By removing barriers to learning and prioritising well-being, we ensure our children are happy, engaged, and ready to learn.
When children eventually leave our Frimley Road Junior campus to transition to secondary education, they do so not just with a strong standard of academic achievement, but as well-rounded, responsible, and caring citizens. They leave us knowing who they are, understanding how to respect others, and carrying a lifelong sense of belonging to the South Camberley family.
Note to Parents: > We believe that parents and carers are our most vital partners in a child's personal development. We regularly share updates on what children are learning in PSHE so that these important conversations can continue at home. If you have any questions about our PSHE and RHE curriculum, our leadership team is always happy to discuss our approach with you.
