Computing
Our Vision for a Digital Future
At South Camberley Primary and Nursery School, we are proud to deliver a strong standard of education that prepares our children for a dynamic, digital future. As an ambitious member of the Engage Enrich Excel Academies (EEEA) Trust, we want every child to become a confident, adaptable, and responsible digital citizen.
Whether your child is taking their first steps at our France Hill Drive or James Road Infant campuses, or advancing through to our Frimley Road Junior campus, they will experience a cohesive curriculum journey. By working together as one school family, we guarantee seamless transitions between our sites, ensuring that every child feels a deep sense of belonging while acquiring the vital tech skills they need to thrive.
An Ambitious, Sequenced Curriculum
Our ambitious and coherently sequenced curriculum ensures that learning progresses logically, without gaps. We focus on three core strands of computing:
-
Information Technology: Using digital tools to solve problems, express ideas creatively, and communicate effectively.
-
Digital Literacy: Safely, responsibly, and critically evaluating digital content.
-
Computer Science: Understanding how computers work, programming, and learning to code.
To ensure that these essential computing skills truly 'stick' in children’s long-term memories, our teachers use evidence-informed teaching methods, including retrieval practice—which simply means we regularly revisit prior learning to strengthen understanding over time.

Innovation, Cross-Curricular Learning & Cultural Capital
We believe in using technology not just as an isolated subject, but as a powerful tool to bring learning to life across the entire curriculum. Thanks to our collaborative staff expertise and dedicated subject specialists, we offer an inspiring computing experience:
-
Building Secure Foundations: In our Early Years, our youngest children confidently engage with iPads and programmable BeeBots, laying the essential groundwork for problem-solving and basic coding.
-
Advancing Skills: In Key Stage 1, children are introduced to Chromebooks and Lego WeDo programming. By Key Stage 2, they apply these technical skills across all their subjects. For example, Year 3 pupils create Healthy Lifestyle online surveys, Year 4 design Ancient Egyptian websites, Year 5 code web pages using HTML, and Year 6 recreate Ancient Greek architecture using 3D modelling software.
-
Growing Cultural Capital: We are incredibly fortunate to have a set of VR Headsets! These instantly transport our pupils across the globe. Whether exploring the Great Barrier Reef, visiting the North Pole, or stepping back in time to Hadrian’s Wall, we provide awe-inspiring experiences that broaden horizons and build valuable cultural capital.

Inclusive Excellence & Adaptive Teaching
At South Camberley, we believe an exceptional education is one that includes and elevates everyone. Through our highly inclusive practice, we actively use technology as a tool for removing barriers to learning.
Instead of taking a "one-size-fits-all" approach, our teachers use adaptive teaching. This means we continuously tailor our support, digital resources, and platforms to meet individual needs—ensuring every single child is championed and supported to achieve their full potential.
Online Safety & Championing Well-being
Creating a safe and nurturing environment is at the absolute heart of our school ethos. We know that keeping children safe—both offline and online—is crucial to their holistic development and character building.
Online Safety is not an afterthought; it is taught proactively and half-termly through a bespoke curriculum map designed specifically for our community, covering Early Years right through to Year 6. Our key priorities include:
-
Championing pupil and staff well-being: We teach healthy digital habits and emotional literacy, helping children navigate online friendships safely and kindly.
-
Establishing positive routines: We guide children to make sensible, safe choices regarding screen time, privacy, passwords, and managing the information they find online.
-
Self-Image and Identity: We empower our pupils to build a positive online reputation and understand how to protect themselves from online bullying, equipping them with the resilience required for modern life.
