Using Ordinarily Available Provision to Support Children

What is Ordinarily Available Provision?
Ordinarily available provision refers to the high-quality teaching and inclusive practices that are routinely provided in all classrooms, for all children, including those with additional needs. It ensures that every child has access to:

Differentiated teaching, so that learning tasks are tailored to meet a range of abilities.

Clear routines and expectations, to create a calm and predictable learning environment.

Visual support, such as timetables, word banks, or visual cues to aid understanding.

Opportunities for overlearning and repetition, to help reinforce key concepts.

Flexible grouping and support, allowing children to work with peers, teaching assistants, or one-to-one as needed.

Social and emotional support, such as quiet spaces, check-ins with staff, or social skills groups.
These strategies are part of the day-to-day classroom practice and are designed to support all learners, particularly those who may need a little extra help.

Working Together
We believe that strong communication between school and families is vital. If a child needs more targeted support, we work closely with parents and carers to discuss next steps and agree on how best to help. This may include additional interventions or involving external professionals if needed — but always starts with high-quality, inclusive teaching.
