Year 2 Trip to Littlehampton
The Year 2 children really enjoyed their trip to the seaside. They loved building sandcastles and paddling in the sea. We were very lucky that we had beautiful weather. It was a good opportunity for us to look at the physical and human features of the seaside to help us understand what we had been learning about.
Children in Year 2 worked really hard in the Easter holidays to make models of their favourite animals. They used a wide range of recycled materials found at home to make some really interesting creations. We are very proud of them!
We have been very busy in Year 2 recently. We learnt lots of songs to sing for a special concert in the school hall. The children really enjoyed singing, playing instruments and performing some actions for their grown-ups and the rest of the children in the school. Some of the year group also accompanied the songs on their recorders. Well done Year Two.
We have also been learning about colour mixing and we all created a colour wheel. We have looked at works by the artist Mondrian. Take a look at the paintings we have done, based on these works of art.
Next, we used what we had learnt about colour mixing to create island landscapes as part of our topic ‘Island Adventure’. See what you think. Aren’t they brilliant?
Our topic this half term is called The Land of the Dancing Dragon. We are learning all about China.
As part of our hook day at the start of our topic we made moon cakes, learned how to write using Chinese symbols and even made our own dragon!
We are enjoying reading traditional Chinese stories as well as stories inspired by Chinese culture such as ‘The Willow Pattern Story’, ‘The Magic Paintbrush’ and ‘The Turtle Who Danced with the Crane’.
In art we have made willow pattern paintings as well as our own terracotta army.
