Oh I Do Like To Be Beside The Seaside
We had a fantastic time on our recent trip to Littlehampton. We built sandcastles, flew kites, paddled in the sea, walked along the prom prom prom and even touched a crab! It was so much fun!
Water Colour Paintings
Year 1 have been using water colours to create these amazing paintings of an orchid. They practised mixing shades of pink and green before painting carefully.
Following on from Andy Goldsworthy Year 1 have been looking closely at a variety of flowers and how they differ in shape, size and colour. We have been practising our drawing skills by sketching a flower of our choice.
As part of our Art this half term, we are looking at the works of Andy Golsworthy and how he uses natural materials to create sculptures. Have a look at some of our own projects created from materials found in our local environment. The children worked in small groups and had lots of fun designing and making their own masterpieces.
Children experienced an exciting PE lesson when they played with the parachute. It's an excellent resource to encourage cooperative and non-competitive play as well as reinforce turn-taking and sharing. The children had a blast!
As part of our current food topic, Year 1 have been busy designing and making fruit kebabs!
We have used all sorts of yummy fruit and enjoyed eating our healthy snacks!
On Friday 23rd January, Year 1 enjoyed a fantastic Pirate Day. Children came into school dressed as pirates and took part in pirate activities such as making yukky sea biscuits, drinking pirate's wee and turning themselves into shipmates on the computers. They have since been writing excellent recounts using time connectives. An enjoyable and fun learning experience.
Mad Science Day
Year 1 had a fantastically messy day exploring many different materials. We made slime, play dough, foam dough and lots more!
We have been exploring and naming 2D and 3D shapes. We have been creating shape patterns and investigating the reasons as to why some buildings collapse due to the properties of the shapes.
We spent an afternoon learning all about the celebration of Diwali. Children then had the opportunity to make Diva lamps, create a rangoli pattern or design a mehndi pattern. We had lots of fun!
We have been designing and making our very own African masks. Our photos show the process the children went through to reach the final product. Enjoy!
Children in Year 1 have been testing their computer skills by drawing an African animal of their choice and writing a descriptive sentence to go with their picture.
Buddy's Big Workout
To help raise money for the NSPCC, Year 1 took part in Buddy's Big Workout. They ran around the cones as many times as they could in a set amount of time.
Year 1 had a fantastic time in the African drumming session! We certainly have some very talented children.
We have been creating a paint wash using sunset colours and then adding in a silhouette of different African animals.
During PSHE this week, Year 1 learnt about different feelings that we experience. We practised pulling faces of each emotion. Can you guess how we are feeling?
As part of our current topic Wonderful World, Year 1 flew to Kenya and went on an African safari. We dressed up in camouflage clothing and had an exciting adventure discovering animals. We then sorted the animals by different criteria.
