As part of our learning about mini beasts the children have looked after caterpillars and observed the changes as they grew. They were excited to see the butterflies emerging from each chrysalis and were proud to let them all go into our garden.
Trip to The Look Out
All the children in Reception went on a school trip to The Look Out. Everyone had a great time trying out all the different activities. After a talk about mini beasts the children went on a hunt to see what insects they could find. The children were all very well behaved and the staff were proud of them all.
We have been learning about the life cycle of a frog. We visited our pond to see the frog spawn and we even caught a frog! We carefully touched the frog and it felt slimy while the frog spawn was like jelly!
We have been planting beans to see how they grow. We have been careful to make sure we are watering them regularly. We’ve been learning the words we need to talk about our plants too.
All of the children in Reception paid a visit to the local Sainsbury’s to buy fresh fruit for a fruit salad. We learnt to use money to pay and to use recycled bags to carry our shopping back to school. In the afternoon we prepared a fruit salad using the different fruits we had bought. ‘Yum’ said the children.
The children have been very excited this week to use the brand new large construction kits which arrived last week. They have been very imaginative in their building and have been labelling their models using equipment from the writing tool kits and aprons we have outside. Some children have also followed the instruction leaflets to build a range of complex constructions.
In our circle time we all talked about what makes a good friend. We took turns to share our thoughts. We discovered that our school value of nurturing is very important.
Reception went on a walk to look for signs of Autumn. We found lots of different coloured leaves and many conkers and acorns.
We investigated what would happen to a gingerbread man who tried to cross a river without a fox to help. First we made predictions about what would happen and afterwards we talked about what we noticed.
The reception children have all settled into school routines well.
We have now started learning about Goldilocks and the Three Bears.
