Reading and Phonics Statement
Our school uses the Read Write Inc reading and phonics programme at EYFS and KS1 and the Read Write Inc spelling programme across KS2. In addition to this, there is a banded reading scheme that is used across KS1 and KS2. The school has refurbished and introduced central libraries to each of the campuses and pupils are encouraged to borrow two books each week which they may read at home and in class. Promoting reading through the libraries is central to the school's ethos of developing a love of reading through books and other resources, including computing programmes. Pupils keep a reading diary for home learning which is signed by their parents.
All our teachers and Learning Support Assistants receive regular training throughout the year and the quality of teaching and learning is carefully monitored by our Reading Leaders and English Managers. The progress of pupils is diligently tracked and where slow progress is identified pupils are given 1:1 intervention to help them close the gap.
There is an opportunity in the autumn term to attend a Read Write Inc information evening as well as a page on our website where you can find resources. Follow this link to the Read Write Inc website.
